🌸 The Only Women’s Language in History: Nushu & Spring Couplet Workshop
Did you know that Nushu (女书) is the only language in human history created, inherited, and spoken exclusively by women?
Originating in Yongzhou, Hunan, this is a Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage. Centuries ago, women were denied education and confined to their homes. In that isolation, they didn't just invent a font—they developed a complete, independent language distinct from standard Chinese. They used it to weave their thoughts, resilience, and love into fans, clothing, letters, and scarves.
In 2025, with the passing of the last semi-natural inheritor, the survival of this unique language faces a crisis.
✨ This Lunar New Year, let’s keep the voice alive.
Join us for a 3-hour journey to rediscover this heritage. We will learn about the history of this secret language and channel the creativity of those women from a century ago by writing our own Spring Festival Couplets (Fai Chun) in Nushu.
