Edge City brings together diverse people for experimental, collaborative experiences. This session launches a community-driven initiative to create Safer Spaces structures for Edge City events - ensuring everyone feels safe, included, and able to participate fully.
This is an interactive, experiential conversation - not a lecture. We'll explore what safety and inclusion mean in our context and start co-creating solutions together.
Interactive activities that help us understand each other's experiences and boundaries
Collaborative brainstorming about structures that could help (codes of conduct, reporting mechanisms, community norms)
Formation of a working group to continue this work beyond this session
Open-source approach - anything we create can be used by other communities
We encourage everyone and anyone to attend this talk, regardless of gender, experience, and identity. It takes all of us to make space for all of us.
Pre-reading (optional but recommended): Real stories from communities like ours that show why structures matter
Please watch (3 min): Consent: It's Simple as Tea
Arrive 15 minutes early if you can - helps us start on time!
We're here to build solutions together, not debate ideology. We'll focus on:
How to create comfort, safety, and inclusion
Structures and practical approaches
Listening to voices that are often unheard
Consent and respect as our baseline
This is the beginning, not the end. We'll form a Safer Spaces Working Group on Telegram to continue developing:
Initial policy frameworks
Structures for upcoming Edge City events
Open-source resources other communities can use
This work is bottom-up, co-created, and iterative. Come help us build it.
