Beyond Mindfulness: Frontiers of Advanced Meditation Science
The Meditation Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School researches advanced meditation, including skills, states, stages, and endpoints beyond basic mindfulness. We integrate state-of-the-art approaches spanning epidemiology, phenomenology, neuroscience, and computational modeling, and beyond, to study topics including meditative absorption, insight, and cessation. Our research has broad applications, such as informing clinical practice, human thriving, psychedelic medicine, neuromodulation, and our understanding of consciousness. Our team also builds safe, evidence-based training programs to support the translation of research into personal well-being and flourishing, and the scaling and democratization of access to advanced meditation.
