Swing dance is a family of social dances from the 1920s, 30s and 40s danced to jazz music, originally developed in African American communities. Back then, it was the dance of the people, with thousands filling dance halls to the incredible music of greats like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday.
I’ve been swing dancing for almost 15 years, and I’d love to share the joy of dancing with all of you! I’ll be teaching a very simple swing step called Charleston.
Here’s an amazing swing dance video that includes some of the steps we’ll be learning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1K5M5xluZs
