We are incredibly fortunate to be in Chiang Mai this month, not only building the city of the future but also having the opportunity to engage with the profound cultural and spiritual traditions that have shaped this land. One of the most significant of these is Tak Bat Devo, a sacred Buddhist almsgiving ceremony that symbolizes the Buddha’s descent from the heavens after preaching to his mother and celestial beings.

As part of this unique experience, monks from local temples will descend in a grand procession to receive alms from the community. Beyond an act of giving; it’s a moment of deep connection between the spiritual and the everyday, a chance to make merit and honor the rich traditions that have existed long before us.

At Edge City, we are not only innovators but also stewards of the communities we interact with. This ceremony offers us a chance to show our respect for the local culture, reflect on how ancient traditions can inform our present, and join together in a moment of collective goodwill. A wonderful opportunity to reflect on mindfulness, generosity, and the ways we can create a more connected world.

What to bring: If you’d like to participate in offering alms, feel free to bring small portions of food, bottled water, dried food, or essential items like soap, toothpaste, socks etc.
What to wear: Dress modestly as a sign of respect. You will see the locals wear all white.

some of us will meet at Red Dog at 6am and walk there. You can also meet us at Wat Ket Karam. Based on the flyer, alms round starts at 6.30am so please arrive before then.
