We will explore two privacy-preserving identity management protocols that take a very different approach to decentralization: UnlimitID, a variation to OAuth based on anonymous credentials, and ClaimChain, a Web of Trust over cross-referencing “individual blockchains”. We will discuss each protocol's threat model and privacy guarantees, emphasizing how cryptography and decentralization complement each other, and how to think of digital identity management beyond blockchain.
